Why do we have religion ? Maybe churchdog can help me to understand. I have never felt the need to worship a god and would love to know what it is that compels so many of us humans to do so.
The way I see it. God is not religious. Why would he be ? In fact for us to think that God needs to be worshiped at all makes us look stupid. Seems to me that if you need to be praised and worshiped all the time you might have some selfesteem issues. Do you really think that a guy that can separate heaven from earth and night from day would have selfesteem issues ? I think God might find that to be a little insulting.
So if we can agree that God does not have any need for our worship, why do it ? Do you feel the need to do it so you will go to heaven. LOL. Or does it somehow make you feel superior to the to the nonbelievers, like you know something they don't.
Every time I hear about some innocent child that was killed in some horrible way, I wonder what was the point and why didn't the big man stop it. Does he care that little ? If so, what in the world makes you think he cares if you go to chruch every sunday ? Don't forget that when the bible or what ever it is that you read was written. Men thought the Earth was flat and that the sun went around the Earth. Maybe I'm the stupid one and the joke will be on me. The one thing I know is that if their is a heaven and hell, most of my friends will be in hell. I bet the partys are much better there

As Doc said, this is off the topic, and I'm not really sure you want an answer as much as you wanted to make a point by ridicule. I'm always interested in discussing religion in a private conversation.

I am not Christian, religious, nor of any faith. I do believe whole-heartedly in our United States Constitution and that what was written is what was meant.

I have lots of friends of many different religions and faiths. Some of my atheist friends don't understand how I can get along with "them". I believe in tolerance and that Americans have the freedom OF religion, not the freedom FROM religion.

I would consider myself fiscally and constitutionally conservative, zyet social liberal. I have no place to tell two adults whom they can love. I have a stance on abortion that some people understand and others don't. If you are knowledgable and understand how babies are made and you conciously make the decision to have sex, become pregnant, and want an abortion then it should have to be a mutual decision of both parties involved.

I guess what I am trying to say is that we are all very different with many common bonds.

Life is to short to care about what other people say or do live and ride free you can only be yourself make you happy and everything will fall into place. try and make others happy and you will more likely be unhappy. imho
