Hey Rich, I'd agree that if you fell off the North Rim, at least it's a beautiful place to go Paducah! I know everyone thinks that's a Kentucky city, but it is actually the sound a human body makes when it impacts the earth at terminal velocity. It can be heard at the end of the Megadeth son, "high speed dirt"
Not to gank the thread, but my younger brother was with me at the north rim, chunked a big 'ol rock off Point Royal, and watched it with the binos as long as he could. A kid about 8 years old behind us sez, "the rangers said not to throw anything into the canyon!" My brother deadpans, "what are we gonna do, fill it up?"
Greatest road trip ever. Love to do it with my family someday soon.

TampaSVT For the guys that do that for a living, I give em two thumbs up. Big ole' stones, for sure...
But, for the kids that climb them for fun... Their days are numbered...

PS, I don't hang out of helicopters anymore.
I hear yah, I've jumped out of a perfectly good plane, sat in an open cockpit while doing kamikaze maneuvers, including flying upside down, and those things didn't bother me as much as watching that video.

Know what sucks more? Not being afraid of heights and still getting vertigo sitting in my desk chair.
Holy sh*t
I almost jumped to my death through the monitor just to end the anguish
I'm so petrified of heights I froze going up the back of Half Dome in yosemite and two girlscouts held my hands and took me down. "You'll be ok mister"...

What do they say..."young, dumb and full of c...."
That there's crazy. Was just over @ La Jolla, Ca. watching some of the hang gliders take off over the cliffs.
Looks fun as hell. Standing right @ the edge of the cliffs looking down @ the beach...not bad still got a little
dare devil left in me. Nothing like those kids tho....

My self preservation instinct seems to grow stronger as I age but I think I'd like to try climbing one of those towers once just to see how high I could make it before turning back.

I'm almost positive I could make it to 1600 feet up the tower... to the top of the elevator

True, the older I get the worse heights are, but I remember many years ago taking the express elevator to the observation platform at the World Trade Center. Something like the 112th floor or something ridiculous like that. Thought I was gonna puke, especially when I stood still and looked at the other tower and realized how much they actually swayed back and forth...and they were designed to do that!
If I found out I only had a few weeks to live, I might try this, though... looks like the ultimate rush! And this guy giggles!
