1700 transfer case vs 1600 case 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
This is a follow up to my other post about the oil pan. I was able to find the part I needed from the parts diagrams on a dealer site. I need the Transfer case ($460 new ouch) went on ebay and there was a full assembly of a 1700 for $250 (the entire middle gear drive) the case only for $112. The issue is the 1600 has a part # of 5MB-17541-00-00 on the dealer site the 1700 is 5MB-17541-11-00 Does anyone know if the 1700 would work? oh there was on 1600 full assembly on ebay $800!

The 2003 special edition roadstar has a part # of 5MB-17541-11-00. While the non special edition has a part number that's different 4WM-17541-02-00. What the difference is I don't know. This information is from our dealership Yamaha online parts publication.

I saw that too, I compared the the entire assembly there are 3 parts that ar different... The main case, two bolts and the stay everything else is identical. The part that concerns me is that the stay is a different part # as well (if you look ate the diagram i think the bolts that are a different part number are the ones that mate the case to the stay.

Ok so I'm going to try the 1700 Transfer case since the ebay seller will allow me 2 weeks to return it with a minimal restocking fee. Once I know if it works I will post incase anyone else winds up in a similar situatition.... wish me luck!

What in the world happened that you need to replace transfer cases? Had to replace the inner transfer case on a 76 Shovel Head due to stupidity and getting in a hurry.
