Surround Bar 1 Year ago
I know this is a MC forum, but I would like peoples' opinions regarding sound bar instead of a surround sound. Currently have a surround sound system, but I am thinking of removing it and going with a sound bar. Those of you that have a sound bar, what brand do you have and how do you like it? Thanks for your input.

you'll probably get many more replies from a A/V site than from here. You can do research and I'm sure there's a forum where you can ask the same question. But hey, if you're going to get rid of your current setup, whatcha got, and what you want for it?

I have a Denon receiver, speakers are not very good. Also have the remote with the receiver. One of the reason I want to get rid of the system is I am constantly getting it screwed up. I just want a simple system, that I get a enhanced sound over the TV, and run my DVD player without having to use 4 remotes.

Re:Surround Bar 1 Year ago
i have a sound bar w/a blue tooth sub. it works well.
I want to replace it with a sony blue ray surround sound w/wireless rear speakers like i have in my bedroom.
i have it networked to find all my music, photos, and movies on my PC. Plus i have it hooked up w/a toslink cable
so i only use the surround sound for volume.
It can play blueray movies as well as regular DVD's or cd as well.

I have Direct TV with a Sony blue ray player and a Vizio sound bar. We had a surround hooked up for a few years but my wife couldn't work it, got to have good sound watching NASCAR, we like the sound bar and it's pretty easy to use. Just turn it on and hit the input and ready to go.

I have this one.

Re:Surround Bar 1 Year ago
I put in a system when we finished our lower level this past winter. I won't call it a basement because it has 9' dry walled ceilings and a walk out thru it's own garage. That's where my R* lives.

We have Direct TV, Denon Surround sound thru two rear ceiling mounted speakers, the remote sub-woofer, two front ceiling speakers, two cabinet mounted speakers, a Sony Blu-Ray and a 50" Samsung LED w/ internal wireless and internet ready.

The sound on action movies is fantastic but after it was all wired we discovered we needed a separate audio cable for sound on the Blu-Ray.
The remote situation was a nightmare with three remotes needed. That confused the crap outta me and resulted in a $400 universal remote that hooks to one of my laptops and diagnoses itself and reprograms itself to correct whatever screw up I create. And I create them quite often.

But the sound is freakin' great.

Upstairs I added Samsung sound bar on the 46" LCD in the TV room and to tell the truth, except for the bottom end rumble and having sound come at you from all directions, it sounds awful good for a LOT less cash.

I have both. Sony TV and sound bar in bedroom, Vizio and RCA surround system in the family room. I paid about the same for both systems. The RCA is not top of the line, far from it. So with that in mind the best to me is the sound bar. I am planning on getting a sound bar for the family room and taking the RCA out. The only advantage with the RCA is that is has a radio receiver. That's handy sometimes but I don't use it enough to get the full benefit.

Re:Surround Bar 1 Year ago
I've been looking at these too for the simplicity aspect. I've always been a "purist," currently running a set up that has an old Sony receiver and amplifier to an Acoustic Research surround system. The speakers rock, but the receiver is a dinosaur.

I'm getting tired of wires everywhere. I live in a brick townhome and can't run wires through the walls, so I do the best I can hiding them under the carpet. But sometimes its just worth it to embrace the new, and if I can get most of the performance out of a much simpler set up, I'm there.
