I was pulling into a parking lot last year and 2 guys next to a minivan were laughing & pointing at my bike as I rolled by. I figure 'whatever' and parked a few spots away. They both come over & first guy says "My buddy was just saying when you came around the corner that 'there's no mistaking the sound of an American Made Harley Davidson Motorcycle', but I told him 'Yeah, except that one's a Yamaha'". Yeah, I guess there is some mistaking ...

I have got "Beautiful Softtail Dude, where'd you get the fenders?"
I answer "From Yamaha" to blank stares ... they don't get it.
I've been asked if my bike is an Indian Spirit too, check one out - very close in appearance.

I sometimes tell people that the Roadstar is "The best softtail Harley couldn't make".
I can see the resemblance though, especially with the HD spots & signals.
Parked next to the HD version of this the biggest difference is that the Roadstar is bigger, longer & lower.
The Roadstar is just sexier that a Harley if you ask me & I've owned them both.

It's gonna get worse when I swap out the Tour Deluxe bags for HD Softtail hard leather bags.
I do strip all the HD badging off anything HD I put on my bike.

Cheers

Most of the time when people ask what I ride I just tell them a "Roadstar" and they nod like they know what I'm talking about. But My favorite is "Hey what kind of Harley is that?" and I answer "The kind Yamaha makes"!!!!!

"Road Star" was a great name choice. It's got the whole Mom and apple pie thing going for it.

Every time Capt Sonny and I get home from a ride he shuts off his Roadie and says " Why do you think they call it a Roadstar?!"

My Son (who rides a Harley) calls mine a HogStar, I call it a YamaHarley...Sounds like a Harley, but kicks ass like a Yamaha! Mine doesn't leak oil, and yes I own a truck and trailer, but I camp in the trailer...jus sayin

The confusion of this bike with an HD is rampant, so lately I have been looking at old "Yamaha" emblems from '80's bikes to replace the "Road Star" tank badge. The little Yamaha emblems on the side covers don't seem to catch anyone's attention, plus all my old Yamahas were clearly marked as such- it kinda made me proud. I sort of resent it that they changed the name to "Star," which sounds generic. I'm loyal to the brands I like.

had mine over 2 years now and the only time someone called it a harley was the day i bought it and trailered it home.. it was bone stock and still on the trailer when i stopped to fuel it up..it was like 15 degrees out and i wasnt going to ride home.. some guy pulls up and says "nice harley,ya just buy it ?? I just smiled and said "yea" thinking people might do that often... i get the "wtf was that" look from people but nobody ever came up to me and asked what it was... i just put this shifter linkage on it anyway in case anyone cant figure out what it is..

Weds I went to the hospital to visit my sis and this cute little nurse walks up to me and asks "what do you DRIVE" after seeing me ride in. I said roadstar and she looks at me with this blank look and just walks away without saying anything else. I was no longer worth talking to because I didn't say harley. I was to busy trying not to chuckle because I was "driving" my bike. BTW I am happily married.
