Glad your dad is alright. I thought the waste management trucks have back-up cameras installed on them... At least they do around here. It shouldn't be too hard to get them to pay. Good luck. Even if they do have the backup cameras those things only work if the driver uses them. Just another example of people not paying attention.
That is true. Even with all of the modern technologies available, It still comes down to paying attention.

Got word today from the insurance company. The bike was border line totalled. They gave him the option but the bike was repairable. Dad elected to have the bike repaired since they were only going to give him about 2/3 of the value of the bike. That would not have been enough to replace it. Now we need to get it fixed and get him physically able to ride again. The bike will be ready before he will .

If you get a good lawyer, maybe you can get a few new bikes and a new garage to keep them in... I hope your dad gets better real soon!

Hope he heals up soon with no lasting injuries.
Similar thing happened to me about 10 years ago, only it was UPS. Guy came to a stop, so I stopped. Then I saw reverse lights. Then he was up on my hood. I was on my way home in my new 2001 saturn sl1, it was 2002 and I was 19 4 weeks later I had a 2002 nissan maxima, loaded, thanks to the insurance Turns out when he backed over my hood he crunched the engine, whole front suspension/steering/trans/etc. Make 'em pay!

Glad your dad is ok, not much pisses me off when I'm riding but that would have pushed me over the edge.

Glad your dad is OK.
I try to keep a bit of a distance between trucks and large SUVs.

We stopped about 100' behind this truck. The driver threw it into reverse and gunned it. My guess when he was looking in the mirrors, he was looking at the rear tires and position in the road and not what was actually behind him. He had a "helper" in the truck who should have been acting as a spotter but wasn't. There was no place for dad to go as there was a pickup truck and trailer parked on the right shoulder of the road. I've gone over this in my head hundreds of times since last Wednesday and the only thing we could have done differently is stay home.
