Hard Saddlebags made from wood? 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Anyone ever consider making some custom Saddlebags out of wood? Any good carpenters out there?

That's an interesting idea. I'm not talented enough to do it right but I think it would look really kewl!

Hmmmmm, I am a finish carpenter/Cabinet guy and the thought has never crossed my mind. I am thinking laminated Teak...or maybe Cypress. You got the gears in my mind going, that's for sure.

Epoxied red cedar strip construction (like high-end canoes) would be beautiful. But I think I'm too hard on my bike to keep them looking great...

This is funny....

The hubster and I were talking about this the other day when discussing making my own saddlebags in fiberglass for my bike. I think the wood bags could look ridiculously sweet as all get out, as long as the right wood is chosen and the work done correctly.

If I could convince the other half, he would make some insane bags. I was even thinking that if we make wood, or just the blank for doing the fiberglass bags, I could do some wood carving in it. Just not sure that it would show up with the fiberglass though

I think that wood saddle bags would be fanatastic. You could do all sorts of fantastic things to it as long as it was treated and made waterproof. I mean you could carve fantastic scenes on it in relief!!! Wow my imagination has just been boosted!!!

I thought it would be kinda cool; heck, one guy made a whole bike out of wood.

You could even paint it black, or just go with a stain/wood finish; lots of possibilities. Wish I knew how to construct something like this, not sure what technique would hold up the best.
