I'll say it again, you get into a crash on your illegal bike and it's going to be all about your illegal doings,
"He did not hear me sound my horn because his pipes were so loud."

"He lost control because his handlebars were too high and illegal."

"I could not see him because he took off and altered his lighting and reflectors to where they did not meet DOT lighting standards by Law."

The plate is a relfector, they want it mounted uniformly so it can be read when you pull away from a robery, and everyone would recognixe you as a motorcycle in case you loose your tail light.

If you go to the American Motorcycle Association (AMA) on line and poke around you will find that BS laws come into play when riders get carried away with modifications. Right now the sound legislation is getting big and they are trying to get State to state uniform sound test, based on SAE J2825 sound standard, Sorry Vance and Hines won't pass. If this is not adopted, it's going to come to the day if you do not have pipes that have a factory stanmp on them, (Yes go look there is one) It will be a ticket or inpound. The Standard the AMA is fighting for will still allow custom pipes that meet the sound level standard and the test will be same state to state. Join the AMA and get free towing and roadside assistance on everything you own, but a utility trailer and help the fight, You can also look up your state Motorcycle laws and see how bad you are in violation. The AMA card should be part of any toolbox. $350 less than AAA. (just some info there. )

They love it when you customize beyond the law, It's a pleasure doing business with you is what they say when you leave, it's easy money sure to pad the black lines in the city, state and county books.

It always sucks to get busted breaking the law. Sorry about that, happens to the best of us, me too.

About six years ago I was pulled over on my crotch rocket, having no idea what I was did the cop gave me the whole "do you know what you did wrong" I replied back with a good "I ride a motorcycle". Well my bike had two violations the rear facing reflectors and my blinkers were 4 and a 1/2 from center instead of 6. I went to the hardware store slapped some reflective tape on there and another cop signed off on it.

My buddy who is a motocop said that everyone wants m/c because there is incentive pay. He also told me that cops are given a persona for bikers that they are always up to no good, not conforming with society and driving the cages, therefore they must have a lb of heroine on them.
