Hey Doc,

Thanks for all your help so far. I am making great progress on my bike getting it ready for the ROT Rally next weekend. I have a lot of parts coming in today and have a few questions. I went ahead and got the gangster fenders and the 180 back tire, RC wheels, rear side mount fender tail light, etc. Not the same parts as yours of course but I love the look of your bike and decided that the big 250 tire did not make much sense.

Did you use the same fender bracket on your rear fender with the removal of the excess material as noted in the fat tire mod for a 180? Also, did you rake the front end or add raked trees? It looks like your forks are longer, is that just due to the lowered rear end? I also noticed you only have one brake on the front wheel now, is that for cosmetic reasons? Does she still stop well?

So far I have added new pipes, drag bars, K&N high flow air kit, new head light and signals, rejetted the carb, removed the fuel pump by adding the suzuki part mod, lowered the rear with the flip and grind the braket tip.

Thanks Again,

Luigipepper

The fender on my bike is custom (made by me) so it does not have the fender subframe but it does use the same attachement points as stock. But I do have the OEM dual setup that I use time to time. There are two potential problems with the 180 depending on the bike and the tire. The rear caliper mount frame attachment point may have to be ground down a little. If you grind it down even with the caliper mount that will be enough to clear the tire. The subframe needs to be ground down so that it's at least even with nuts which hold the fender. Check here ... http://roadstarclinic.com/content/view/88/163/

On my stock setup I found that grinding was not enough and I had to spread the subframe a bit with a small hydraulic jack.

Also, did you rake the front end or add raked trees? It looks like your forks are longer, is that just due to the lowered rear end?

The front is raked 6 degrees in the trees. I did not cut the frame. The front forks are 4" longer than stock (2" would make the bike level). Stock length forks on a 6 degree rake drops the bike about 1.5" at the footpegs and makes the bike more responsive (squirrely) especially at highway speeds. With the longer forks and higher front end the bike handles more like stock. I could have lowered the rear rather than extend the forks but I was always dragging my pegs before I added the 4". I also made lower tins which are 4" longer than stock.

I also noticed you only have one brake on the front wheel now, is that for cosmetic reasons? Does she still stop well?

Yes, it's for cosmetics. Pay big money for wheels, I damn well want everyone to notice

With the stock '00 brake components, the single setup does not work well. I repace the stock with an R1 caliper (not necessary for the post '03 bikes) and found braking improved slightly; added a R1 floating disc and it improved a bit more; added the warrior master cylinder and the single setup is now equivalent to the stock dual. I can lock up the front end.

Most of the mods I've done is with the viewpoint of being able to return the bike to stock if I sell it.
