Chrome Cleaner 4 Years, 3 Months ago
Being the cheap skate that I am, I purchased highway bars($65, good deal, eh?) from a guy who pulled them off his bike. The bars are in great shape (no rust), but there is road grime, some dried on bugs and such all over it.

I've done the Pledge thing and gotten the better part of it off, but I think something with a bit more UMPH! is gonna be needed to get it back to sparkling...And we all want our Roadie's to sparkle, right?

Suggestions from you seasoned veterans out there would be appreciated on what product does a good deep clean on chrome.

Thanks!!

M7

From one cheap skate to the next , I find turtle wax Chrome polish (yep the white bottle with the red top) works very well on good chrome. and it's cheap. BB

To clean the bugs off my windshield, chrome, paint, I use Zip Wax car wash (Turtle Wax) with hot water. The little critters don’t stand a chance!

When I have real problems with chrome I use tripple of four-aught stainless steel-wool and a really good liquid wax. (What ever I have on hand... So, I'm only into it for the wool.)

This usually gets through any built up film that builds up from other cleaners and waxes. (Or other nasties...)
This method works really well for minor rust too...
The wool knocks down the tiny bits of metal that the rust builds up on and the wax helps seal the fisures and prevent more rust.

I use the yamaha spray polish& instant detailer. I get it at the mc shop. its about 6 bucks a can, but it foams off bugs without any scrubbing and leave a waxed finish.

I agree with robertphoenix on the four 0000 steel wool.
It works great on chrome and glass.
Then use some kind of wax for a protectant on your chrome, but not on your glass.

Turtle Wax Chrome polish, Never Dull for the really rough stuff and greasy grime. If you really have tough stuff, the steel wool will work. I have used steel wool and WD 40 to cut oily road grime from metal surfaces with good success.

IF you are a REAL cheap skate use Coke-a-Cola on the chrome with a soft sponge, then wash with hot water and dishsoap. I did it on a truck bumper and was amazed!
