Growing up in Alaska gas was always expensive.

Remember that oil price is set by OPEC, the cartel that controls the majority of world crude oil production. As long as the US imports the majority of it's crude oil, it will have to pay open market price. Regulation is not a magic bullet that will suddenly make low gas prices come back. The US is purchasing a commodity and bidding against the China's and Taiwan's and India's etc.

If you want cheap oil you need to increase the supply or reduce the demand.

When I started driving gas was .20 a gallon and I worked at car dealership that had a service station and I filled the tanks for them, checked their oil, tires, water in the radiator and cleaned their windshield. Never see that price again I said when gas hit $3 that we would never see it under $2 again and that has come true.

I have to disagree with you on this one. You say regulation is not the magic bullet, you say that we need to increase the supply or lower the demand.
Well lower the demand: that ain't going to happen. We have been made to be dependent on gas. The alternatives are not out there yet.
You say increase the supply: Why would we need to increase supply? When just one oil company like EXXON can report over 350 BILLION in profit are you telling me that we the public are not being ripped off?? Gas prices should not be as high as they are if it weren't for the greed of oil companies. Hell they pay a bonus to their CEO's of over 10 million. A flipping bonus mind you. That says to me that they are making so much money they can afford to just throw it around. Gas prices jump at times of an increase as much as 70%. Now I don't know about the rest of the folks here but I would love to get an increase in my pay like that every year. I'm lucky if I get a 4% raise. So why do oil companies deserve to rip us off??
At least if government were to step in and regulate the price perhaps we could keep it from reaching $5.00 a gallon by the end of this year!!
And the next time the oil companies want an increase they would have to ask the Public Utilites Commission and I assure you they would not be allowed to jump in the large increments that they do to us now!!

If I could get my R* converted to a hybrid for a reasonable price I would do it. As much as I love the sound I love being in the wind even more!
