Seat Pad 8 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I've been nosing around, considering trying a new seat pad for those 500-600-mile days. The AirVent pad has been a lifesaver, but after 10 hours or more in the saddle, even that doesn't keep my butt from screaming, "Get off of me, you clown!"

Looking at the Butt Buffer pad and the PropPad right now, and I see where ProPad actually offers the seat insert and smoothing foam as a kit. Anyone have experience dissecting the stock seat? Easy, hard? I'm I a nutcase for even thinking about it?

Here's the link to the kit:

Soba,
Check this out;

http://roadstarclinic.com/component/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,187/func,view/id,65021/catid,49/

This might be the way to go if you're just wanting to get rid of the pressure on your tailbone. That's my only complaint with the stock seat.

The tricky part of modifying the stock seat is cutting the foam (need an electric knife) and reattaching the vinyl. So far I've tried manual and electric T50 staple guns using 1/4" staples without any luck. The manual won't hardly penetrate the plastic seat pan and the electric one doesn't do anything but bend the staples, with very little penetration. A pnuematic stapler might be the way to go if I can find one that shoots wider staples (like the T50) instead of the narrow (and longer) staples used in carpentry and woodworking. Actually I'm thinking about going by a local upholstery shop and having them pop some staples in it, as long as they don't charge an arm and a leg to do it.

In The Wind,
Aaron

For what it's worth, I had a gel pad put in my 02 RS Warrior's stock seat at the Myrtle Beach bike week in Oct '06 and that's how they reassembled the seat -- wide staples. I was a little concerned when I first got it back but I had the bike for a year and never had an issue with it. I wasn't there when they reassembled so I'd have to 'guess' they used an air stapler.

Don't know if you have ever tried a sheepskin cover. I have one on my
mustang seat and rode 770 miles in one day with no monkeybutt,or back pain.

Greysnake,

Where did you get the sheepskin for your mustang seat and how spendy is it?

I've got the mustang with the backrest, but since I put risers on it has changed my sitting position just enough to give me a sore behind after an hour or so.

Thanks is advance.

Yes, I've seen the powder. Haven't tried it, though.

My Corbin seat is good-to-go, but I still use my sheepskin butt pad in the hot months and on long trips. The sheepskin certainly keeps you from having that ohhhh so atractive wet seat look!
