Re:water logged bike 10 Months ago
I'll seperate the connectors tomorrow and place a fan on everything. I have an air compressor with a small tank that ought to be good for a few blast. It seems like the plugs themselves would have dried out by now but I'm willing to try anything at this point. Will ask about the grease at auto zone when I get plugs. Looks like the weather has changed. There's only supposed to be twenty percent humidity tomorrow so a fan for unplugging the connectors and and a fan should go a long way to drying everything out. Will probably push it out in the sun as well.

It looks like you guys are right about an electrical problem. After my short mile ride yesterday at almost dark, I noticed this morning when I pulled the plugs that the back two are black again. After holding one of the front plugs against the frame, it produced a spark between the points. OK good. I decided to try the same plug on a rear plug wire and it produced a spark between the threads and the frame and no spark at the points.

I feel like it's narrowed down to wet or bad ignition, wet or bad wireing, or coil. I'm hopeing to try and check the resistance on the coil with it still mounted. I'm also goint to roll it out in the sun and put a fan on it while I go to the parts store and get some new plugs, and grease for the connections.

I don't think my little cheap ohm tester has the right repair manual setting for testing coil resistance since it only has one ohm setting but I'm thinking I can test them both and compare the results of each. Hopefully I can do that with the coils still mounted.

Just a quick note to let you guys know that I'm pretty sure that I "finally" figured out what the heck is wrong with my bike. I first checked the primary coil which was ok and then checked the secondary coil by jumping from one plug wire socket to the other where they come out of the coil itself so I think it's a safe bet to say the coil is bad. That's good news to me because I was beginning to think it might be the ignition. That repair manual sure does come in handy.

This is going to be my last post on this thread. Just wanted to take the time to tell everyone thanks for the advice and comments. I ordered a new coil rush delivery so maybe I'll have time to get it put one by my next day off. Heck, it's almost eighty degrees outside today.
