!!!Snowbound Forum Readers Don't Read This!!! - I'll not be responsible for the tears and gnashing of teeth
I'm a member of a motorcycle meet-up group and we're doing a ride tomorrow. Since the weather is suppose to be in the 70's we're doing an all day ride. Here's the proposed route:
Start at the IHOP in Buford. After finishing breakfast we will travel to Helen, GA for our first stop. After gassing up and all that good stuff, we will make a quick visit to the Nora Mill Granary. Built in 1876 this fully operational water powered, gristmill still uses its 1500 pound French Burr millstones to turn out corn and wheat meals. Back on the road, we will shoot north on route 255, eventually picking up route 197 south towards Gainsville. Depending on our time, we can stop by the Mark of the Potter. Now a left on Route 28 and we begin a steep and spectaculary serpentine ascent into the town of Highlands, North Carolina. It's lunch time!!! Countless resturants catering to all sorts of tastes can be found up and down the small
main drag. It's rumored that the Pizza Place is excellent and will not break the bank. And since no visit to the Highlands is complete without playing beneath a waterfall. We will take a small detour going west on Route 64, just outside town, where we'll see the final 60 feet of 120 foot Bridal Veil Falls. Most waterfalls require viewing from a distance, or at least a fair hike to get up close, so it's going to be neat to find one that's so accessible. (Bring your cameras for this one)
Now it's back east on Route 64, we wind our way down the mountain into Cashiers and swing right onto Route 107, another ribbon of zigzagging tarmar that plunges out of the mountains to upstate South Carolina. From there we head back home
Let me know if you want to join me on this first good ride of the "spring".
