well done for taking notice of the warning and getting away with it.
i have to watch myself with alcohol. i wouldnīt call myself alcoholic, but having irish on both sides of the family, i like liquour FAR too much and as a result drink very little occasionally. my co-ordination goes to pieces when drunk, so luckily i couldnīt ride a bike even if i wanted to. on the bike = no booze for me.
unfortunately, 3 years back i lost a good mate (ex-prez of my old bike club)who wouldnīt learn the lesson.
he was riding home well over the alcohol limit at 3am and overtook a group of 4 cars. as he overtook he noticed the front car was a cop car and panicked (truck driver + DUI = no licence for a long time)and tried to do a runner. he went into a roundabout hot, decked the bike out, lost traction, and came off. so did his helmet. it was one of those pathetic tupperware bowl things. if he had been wearing a real helmet he might have survived, but where he tumbled and slid to was a large concrete well head that he went headfirst into. he died of massive head injuries.
it pisses me off that something like this was avoidable totally. no booze and a decent helmet hell, even a decent open face lid would have saved his life, and heīd have still been around today.
take care out there guys

I left the Alcohol alone and do not fool with it, I see too many foolish and stupid things out on the Highway on 2 and 4 wheels, I have learned to slow down some, if people are in a Hurry and they usually are,
I let them pass and go on, I take my time especially when I am on the Bike, so far I have had no issues but I see it all the Time when Riding!
I am not Ashamed to say it about the Alcohol, we have all been there!

thanks

I have a stupid alcohol story to share lol. I was drinking with my fatherinlaw. He has an 06 heritage. He decides we should ride to the gas station and fill up. So I go with him. After he pumps his gas he tells me to pull over there and he would fill mine up lol. So I go to pull behind his harley and catch his rear fender trim with my foot peg. it moves the harley about 4 inches forward and then it lurches back for a second GASH. You could have cut the air with a knife lol. I figured sure I was a dead man but he just laughed it off and went on. But just that was enough to make me realize that I cant judge as good while intoxicated. I'm too old to drink and drive as it is(although there never is a good age) Just thought I would share.

As with everyone else here, I'm very glad you came out of this OK. An expensive lesson learned and I'm fairly sure we've all learned something or other the 'hard way'. I'm glad this lesson didn't leave any permanent damage to yourself or others.
Way back in the early 80's when I was younger and stupider I had a few beers over at a friends house while on the bike. I had never drank with the bike up until that point, but I figured "what the heck......it's only a mile or so through the neighborhood - 30 MPH tops". I had always had a kind of one-with-my-bike feeling when I rode........that night I knew I was a man ON a machine and words can't describe the difference. That was a very loooooooooooong mile or so and I never repeated the mistake (on two wheels.....4 took a bit longer I'm not proud to say).
If I have any alcohol with the bike.......they are few and very far between. I like having all my senses when it's only leather and plastic between me and hard immovable objects!
Thanks for sharing.......it just might keep someone else from learning a much harder lesson.

First, thanks for sharing the wake-up call. Most of us have those "wonder I got home" nights, mostly in cars and at younger ages. I know I have.
I have one ridiculous m/c drink/drive moment from at least 25 years ago. My best friend and I took my Yami 650 Special II downtown Cleveland one summer night and proceeded to party with no regard to getting home. Stupid! We were at a stoplight on the west side of town about 2:30 am. I must have forgotten to put my feet down, or something. We both toppled to the street; laughing like the two drunken fools we were. Thank goodness we went down while we were standing still and only had a few more miles to go. Not exactly good judgement, but someone was watching over me.
Anyway, I'm really glad you're ok. A clear, focused mind is critical to safely handling the beasts we ride!
