WTB HK Pipes 5 Years, 10 Months ago
I am looking for a set of HK Big Straights for a R* 06 Midnight Silverado. I am also looking for some pro's and con's about the pipes.

Thank you,

Ironhead

I just switched from the HK 2-1 Sideburner to the 3" Big Straights.
I am very happy with the new pipes. My bike idles better and they are quieter than the sideburners.....not to say they aren't loud when you crank the throttle.
Overall, I would go with the Big 3"s, great sound, great performance, and they will never blue because of their construction.

The HK 3" big staights are great looking and sounding pipes. I went one step further and put Thunder Monsters in them and that helped both the performance and the sound. I've had mine about a year with 5000 miles and no bluing! You can't go wrong with them if you like the drag pipe look. I also like the fact that there is no visible seam like on the V&H Longshots.

Topher~ Did you have a problem with bluing on the sideburner? From what I've read, your supposed to get better performance with the 2-1 sidburner as opposed to the straights. I've got VH Longshots and they've turned gold at the heads and the joints. I'd like to replace them and was thinking about going to the sideburner.

TwoEagleStar,

I had no problem with bluing on the Sideburners and I noticed little performance difference between them and the 3" Big Straights.
There is slightly more baffling in the Big 3"s, a little quieter but not that much. The 3" big's are one continuous pipe from the head to the tailpipe. Very clean looking and IMO easier to tune. I highly recommend them.

Post edited by: Topher, at: 2006/07/11 08:10

It seems you've already decided to get the DG HK 3" Big Straights, Good for you! You'll really like them. I would suggest shopping a bit before I ordered a set. I bought mine in 2004, and I saw the price swing from $520 down to $410 from different vendors. They sound good with the stock "waffle" baffle, but I installed Thunder Monsters in them, and they now have a slightly deeper, richer note with less "edge" and better throttle response.

Re:WTB HK Pipes 5 Years, 10 Months ago
I have one more question, is there a difference on the model numbers of the bike, for instance XV1700A and XV1700ATMV, The pipes I found are for a XV1700A will fit 04-06 although the model numbers are worring me about fitment.

Thanks again everyone,

Ironhead
