Getting the gold out 9 Months, 1 Week ago
Last fall, on the way home from Colorado, I lost my baffle in Arkansas. Well , because she was running so lean, I ended up with a light gold area on my Propipe muffler. It's no big deal, but I was thinking , if you guys here have used something on your bikes that did not damage the chrome (making it dull/hazy), I'd track it down and try it. We bought some (blue away?) for a buddies bike once, and it damaged the chrome finish, but it removed the bluing. I'd rather have the gold area (which only I notice) , than a hazy area , that everybody notices. Thought? BB

Semi-chrome is also an abrasive as are the others that are used to remove the color. They will all dull the chrome to some extent ... some of us are just more fussier than other.

I don't know of any chemical treatment that you can use to remove it.

Has anyone tried (Flitz) it's a blue paste in a silver tube, it's a metal polish. I have never used it on chrome.
Flitz is less abrasive I have used it on Blued gun parts and it did not remove any blueing
Never used it on chrome and do not know if It would remove discoloration brightens up aluminum nice and have polished some plastic guage faces
Good luck Bear

Hey......I've got flitz already, just forgot about it. Maybe I'll try some on the bottom side of the muffler and see what it does. BB
