Brought the bike to to dealer 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
For two metzlers I was charged $395 including weights.
For labor I was charged $480 plus $65 tax, for the following
installing tires and balancing
Grease swing arm (Did not change bearing)
Greased linkage bearing
Checked steering bearing
Charged battery
And rewired passing lamp left side lamp.
Does this seem like a reasonable price?

Ron

well......I guess that depends on if you could have done those items yourself. I would have expected 2 or 3 hours labor plus your parts. Don't worry too much about it and feel good knowing that its done.

Re:Brought the bike to to dealer 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I'd go back about the tire price!!! I just priced metzler me880 wide white walls, and my dealer is selling them @ 50% retail! The regular H rated I can get for $89 for the rear, and 76 for the front. The HB's, the biased radials I can get for $106 and $94 or so! Maybe you can get them to at the least give you in store credit! Just don't go in their pissed off, and if the first person you talk to doesn't work out, no sweat, talk with another! It's your hard earned money, always wheel and deal and do the research "within this site and on your own", before you get the product and the work done! Wish you well...

Re:Brought the bike to to dealer 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Dealerships always charge more then the internet I know this. I think I most likely paid about 100 bucks more then what I could have gotten it on line for. That being said the reason I bought it from the dealer is the following.

If I came in with a tire from the internet they charge more for installation

I would have to have it shipped to my house then take it to the dealer by car go home and then bring the bike up.

The dealer since I am a good customer never makes me wait and if I am going on a long trip or if I need work done right away he takes me in.

I never saw prices like you are mentioning can you please tell me where you get your tires?
I was more interested if my labor was in line for work done. I know I overpaid for the tire but it was done for convience since most dealers I know won't let the tire be shipped directly to them. (they want to make it as hard as possible so you buy from them)

I have the Denis Kirk book infront of me for the Metzler
ME880 front 130/90HB www it is $147.99
Me880 rear is 150/80HB www price is $182.99
That would be total $330.98 I paid $384.

As far as mounting you must have put it on the rim. Shops around here get $80 per hour.
So to take a tire off and remove it from the rim and put it back on rim and mount. No way will they do it for that price.

Re:Brought the bike to to dealer 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
i´ve got the only place within 100kms that mounts tyres that the customer buys themselves.

i charge 15 euros per wheel including balancing, and i´m doing a LOT of tyre changes!

i figure that if the customer buys on the net, they gain, and with the quantity of changes i´m doing, i make more than from the tyre sales i´d normally do.

everybody wins

Re:Brought the bike to to dealer 8 Months, 3 Weeks ago
IMHO you got shafted so to speak. They charged you 6hrs labor for 2 1/2 hrs of work. Seems like they charged you tax on the total. By law they cannot tax labor only the parts. Check your invoice close as alot of steelers out there are now putting a Misc. charge of anywhere from $8.00 to $15.00 for there cost of lubes, cleaners and computer generated paperwork. You probaley could have saved a few hundred bucks at an independent shop. Watch them steelers Bro. most of them want to charge a couple hundred just for an oil change and gear oil change. By the way if you take the tires off the bike and take them into a bike shop most will only charge you $30.00 - $40.00 to mount and balence them. By know means am I trying to bring you down I just want to give you some insight on most steelers. By checking your steering bearing If you were not there watching them then they probaley just checked for slop while bike was in the air. Take care and God Bless, Ride safe. OSO

In Florida a bill for labor only is not taxed. A bill for parts of course is taxed. A bill for parts and labor is taxed on the whole thing!

Did they give you a breakdown as to the labor charge for each work item? If so, what did they charge? If not, I would recommend requesting a breakdown from the Service Manager.
