Love bugs are back! 8 Months, 1 Week ago
Those of you who have ridden or driven in FL in May or Sept know what I am talking about. Love bugs can take the fun out of a ride. I believe they are actually a variation of the fly. They travel in pairs, literally connected to each other, hence the love bug moniker. I don't know much about the underlying biology, but I know they can make a mess out of your windshield, clothes, teeth, etc. They splat if you blow on them too hard and their remains are very acidic. You need to get them off your paint as soon as possible. I have seen car windshields completely covered with them. Wipers offer no relief.

May offers some of FL's absolute best riding weather, but at a price. I HATE LOVE BUGS!

Ya a few times per year they hatch think they are called shad flies or may flies. They are so thick you feel like your driving over fine gravel. Boy do they ever make a mess of your windshield and paint jobs.

Certainly know what Mayflies are ... used to have tons of them up at the lake when I was a kid.

Never see a love bug ... well not the 6 legged variety.

I run into a herd of Mayflies now and then. They do make a mess. And taste like crap. But I seem to be a June bug magnet. Dang little rocks with wings

Yea... I rode my bike to town the first day I got it out of hibernation without the windshield... yikes, I got hammered by something the size of a bumblebee... right on the chin. It made me remember why I ride with a windshield!

According to Google a Mayfly and a Love Bug are two different bugs. I've never seen what the pic above calls a Mayfly but I've seen a few million Love Bugs!

That's correct .... they come from different insect Orders.

I've never seen a Love Bug ... except the car.
