tail of the dragon 8 Months ago

Has anyone taken a roadstar down the tail of the dragon? I have heard everything from a bigger bike does just fine to my floorboards were almost gone when I got off later. I hear the speed limit is now 30 for the whole 10 or so miles. I don't mind going slow in the curvey country just so I get a chance to see some of the scenery. I just am going to be down there this summer and would like a challenge. Well any info would be nice especially about were to stay around Knoxville oe Chattanooga.

I used to spend alot of time in Knoxville and still do at one of our plants in Chattanooga. I like to stay in Marysville by the airport, just south of Knoxville. Nice town, good food. The mouse ear in my younger days was a good place to kill an hour also.

I took mine down it last spring. I rubbed the boards several times and my exhaust at least once. I didn't push it, there is too much traffic on weekends to risk pushing it. I hear that the police have backed off some in recent weeks on their crackdown. If you ride it, you also need to ride the Cherohala Skyway. About 50 miles from Telico Plains, TN to Robinsville and dumps in on US 129. It's a beautiful road that takes you from a winding river in the valley to over a mile in elevation. There are plenty of stops to enjoy the scenery. Check out http://www.tailofthedragon.com/.

I rode the Dragon years ago with no problems on a VTX 1300R. Sold it to a friend couple years ago and he wrecked it on the Dragon last year. Ate plenty of chrome that day. Today me and the wife took ride up through Suches and then over to Helen. Plenty of curves, nice views, sore butt and a few new scrapes on the exhaust pipe.
