Removing Helmet when fueling? 6 Months, 1 Week ago
|
|
|
I've heard some say it's a law that you must remove your helmet when fueling. But, I haven't been able to find the law mentioned anywhere on the web. Only some stations say it's "Their Policy". Does anyone know for sure if this is in fact a law?

That's the first I've heard about it. I always remove my helmet, but that's more just to let my head breath for a minute, and so I can see what I'm doing so I don't get fuel all over the bike.

To the best of my info there is no federal (or even state) law stating such. I think their policy has more to do with identifying a potential gas-and-run than any safety situation. My $.02.

Stations in Detroit Area, no masks or helmets on that hide your face, if you enter to Pay.
You can not get many to turn the pump on without money, unless you are a regular at the station, with all the drive-offs.
But I usually take mine off anyway just to see in the tank and give my head a rest.

Same in Indiana, no mask no helmets if you enter the station. Thats makes sense to me. I have actually seen it done, come in with a mask in winter or helmet in the summer while I was in a station. It actually made me a little nervous.

Never heard of such a thing. Drive off without paying here in Texas and they'd just shoot you off your bike.

We have been trying to live down that murder capital name here in Detroit.
So until they change the way it gets reported by the liberals, as just one less thief - instead of store owner shoots helpless individual who simply for got to pay, while driving off with gas pump still attached to car and no money to pay anyway.

Geez, Heavy, that sounds like frontier justice. But given the situations faced by a lot of convenience stores now a days I guess I can't blame them for at least wanting to.

Here in Oregon, there is a stupid law indicating that you cannot pump your own gas (motorcycles excluded). So, in most stations, you pay at the pump and there is no need to go inside to pay. I wear a 1/2 helmet and have never take it off when filling up. One of the members of our club mentioned the law of having to remove the helmet but haven't found any proof of that law???? Maybe I'll just call the local Police and see what they say? Wellllll, maybe not, I don't want to get them thinking of new ways to write someone a ticket
