Gas coming out vacuum vent hose 6 Months, 1 Week ago
I am hoping someone can help me. Sometimes when I shut my bike off it coughs or burps and it sounds like it is coming out of the carb. Today I shut it off and I could smell gas very strongly in my garage and it had burped once. I got close to the carb and saw it burp again and gas come out of the vacuum vent hose on the back of the carb. Gas landed on the engine and hot pipes. This concerns me. Any help? There are no other symptoms the bike is rich. The plugs are white, pipes dont show any blueing etc. Bike runs just fine when riding.

Rusty,

I've had the same problem of the bike "puking" gas, but it only happened if I overfilled the gas tank.

Hi there, sorry for the delay in the response Musky. Correction on which hose it is coming out of. At the top of the carb on the front left hand side there is a short black hose coming off of the carb, this is infront of the vacuum vent hose. That hose at times, seems to only be when the bike has been running for awhile, spits gas out and makes a burping sound after the engine is shut off. My concern is it drops down or sprays down onto the very hot pipes, and i am worried about ignition. The bike itself is running great, so I am quite ocnfused and concerned.

yes from there, there is a black hose with a curve in it on there, about 3 inches long or so, gas burps out of it

That's the float bowl vent. Check your float level for starters.

Ok, will do, I am at work right now, so I might not get to it until Monday afternoon, night shifts are fun eh!! I wouldnt have thought that was the float bowl vent, because the float bowl is on the bottom and that is on the top. So basically, I am to just check to see if it is out of whack and fix it. I am guessing that if it is not set properly then gas could come out of there? Why would it do it only sometmes. And how come it would just start to do this in the past few weeks, Carb has not been off the bike since before last winter.

Do you let your bike idle for a bit before you shut it off? Is your idle high?

Things change just to make out lives miserable I think Checking the float level is a first thing to check. It might be a sticky float. Or a sticky float needle. Checking stuff in the float bowl is just a place to start.

I think this "watered down" gas that they sell us these days tends to boil pretty easy.
I think I heard my bike burp the other day when I shut her down hot, never saw any gas come out anywhere though.
