New Pipes for my Road star 5 Years, 9 Months ago
|
|
|
Hello All,
I have just purchased a 99 Road Star Silverado with 28,000 miles. The bike is completely stock and I want to upgrade the exhaust to V&H longshots. I'm writing to get some feedback from people that have done this upgrade and how they like it?
Also if there are any other ugrades (jeetting) that would benefit ?

Welcome to the Forum Por2gee
You don't need to re jet if you are just putting pipes on. At most you might have to tweak the PMS. You will get a benifit from jetting but if you do that you will need to open up your stock air box or get a new one like the Barons. It depends on what you want out of the bike. If you're happy with the power now but just want better sound then just put the pipes on , ride, and smile.

Hello Musky,
Thank You for the response, I mainly want a little more sound and the look of the long shots. As far as the rest of the upgrades it will mostly be cosmetics.
Thanks again

My 2003 Road Star came with the V&H Long shots. I really like the sound. Strongly considering doing the Baron Air upgrade.

If you buy the BAK then buy the Baron Jet kit at the same time.

Musky,
Pretty
I have the same one without the fancy etching.
You'll have everything you need. I know that for the 1600 they give the 167.5 to 172 Mikuni jets which span the range normally needed.
For the 1700, I don't know what jets you'll get but you need the same range.

As long as were on the subject (my BAK ) I can figure out what the rain coat does but what does the power cone do? Or supposed to do. I get a picture in my mind of that tornado jobby you see on TV that you put in you car or truck carb and instantly get 85 mpg.

The Power Coner is supposed to redirect the air into the manifold.
Does it increase performance? Beats me.
For a lot of these types of things it's hard to separate fact from fiction.
Personally, I would not buy one but if someone wants to give me one for 'free' ...
I doubt that you would notice any difference.
You won't find any problems riding in the rain, even a heavy MN downpour. On the other hand, if it's raining hard I would put a shower cap over the BAK. The BAK bike can be a bit hard to start after a heavy rain.
