You are too slick Musky. Magnets on the oil filter is definitely a great idea. I am going to do it. If magnets can fix the arthritis in my ankle they will surely help collect metal floating around in the motor. The only problem is you can't see what is collected. Did you ever cut a filter open to see what was collected?

Cow magnets are used to prevent what is known as "Hardware Disease" in cattle - not to be confused with the Hardware Disease suffered by many Harley owners.

Hardware Disease is caused by bits of metal (nails, bailing wire, staples, etc.) getting lodged in the reticulum, which is one of the four parts of a cow's stomach. Cows pretty much eat anything that's on the ground - grass, bugs, dirt, string, and an assortment of metallic items that find their way into the pasture.

Cow magnets are placed in the cow's stomach where they draw all the ferrous metals away from the lining of the stomach. One cow - one magnet - works for the life of the cow.

Of course it wont hurt but how much advantage it would be is questionable to me anyway. But for $1.99 why not.

I use a reusable oil filter. Inside the housing there is a rare earth magnet. When I clean the filter they is always some brown slug attached to the magnet that is difficult to remove. It's very small magnetized particles of metal.

I've been using the Magnetic plug for some time as well. Always something to clean off the end. 3.00 worth of insurance keeps that loose trash out of harms way , in my opinion. BB
