Glad you're both OK.

Two largest profit margins in the US:

  • Insurance companies
  • Pharmaceutical companies

Glad you and yours are OK. Now I have to add clear plastic to the multitude of things I try to watch out for.

I hit a deer. Geico paid to have the bike hauled in to dealer and paid me more than it was worth when it was determined it was totaled. I got a nice check that included the bike with all add-ons pro-rated + cost helmet + leather coat + gloves + boots. I'm sure my rates went up but was glad I had the insurance.

Makes you wonder sometimes. When the high mucky muck's have an accident on their bikes (I'm sure some of them ride) or vehicles, how do their insurer's treat them? Food for thought. Glad you and the missus are still with us. A little sore and pi$$ed but still here.

Well the estimate is in. $6000 damage absolutley unbelievable. All cosmetic no frame damage except the steering lock took a bit of a hard hit but no cracks or bends. Concidering the bike is only valued at 12500 in the blue book Canadian edition it should be interesting to see if they write it off. I hope not I like the bike but we will see.

Did your insurance include any extras? I notice the sig pic has different pipes and hard bags. I know mine would not pay for any goodies that got wacked that were not on the policy when I went down. Everything went back stock.

Insurance has not seen it yet. At that price I suspect they are going to write it off but we will see.All the damage is on the other side. The price is for cosmetic stuff. Fender bag tank handle bars, light kit shifter fork cover. The only thing damaged that was not stock was the Cobra Fatty bars. Those things saved my butt. The prices for stuff is outrageous. For example a front fender is 800 bucks. The front half of the shifter is 300 bucks. the plastic saddle bag is 800 bucks. You get the point i'm sure. The real money seems to be in after market sales of the parts. If I had the complete parts list I would love to price out the bike bit by bit. Bet it would be close to 40 grand.

You can check rates with other insurance companies and switch as the other companies will not always hit you with the increased rate...

Helmut is up in Canada like me... we don't have the range of insurance options like you do down in the US. Especially where I am in BC, your basic insurance is only through ICBC (Insurance Corp of BC). They have a monopoly on insurance, so it's them or nothing!

Right you are. In Ontario I think we have 2 carriers for bikes. Funny thing is that you can go to 3 different brokers who all carry the same carrier ie:Kingsway and get 3 different quotes. Strage but true.
