passing bikers 4 Months, 4 Weeks ago
I have been riding two wheeled motorized vehicles for many years, however I just recently became a "real" motorcycle rider.
I have always noticed how motorcycle riders would extend their hands out toward other passing riders.
Since I've been riding I've encountered it a few times, and I usually respond with the same gesture.
My questions are. What is the meaning of this practice, and are there any particular hand signs or motions that would be considered disrespectful, or signifying allegiance with a club or something?
I'm asking because I don't want to do the wrong thing, and I don't want to be rude and do nothing.

Thanks, Illstste

It's a friendly gesture I do as often as it's safe to do so. It's a recognition of fellow riders - a way of saying, "I see you, HI!" I either extend my arm downward or to the side. Sometimes I extend my first 2 fingers. It doesn't seem to matter.

Raise your right hand up in a fist like this. It means "bike power"

(I'm bringing it back)

Feel free to wave back, there's no super secret waves that M/C's use.

I've been waving to other bikes for as long as I've been riding, It seems like I get fewer and fewer return waves these days, maybe just a sign of the times

Just one rider saying hi to another. Holding the middle finger up would be considered a bad gesture. I think the first and second fingers extended a little more than the others is prety much the standard wave but I don't know if it really means anything or if's just the way your fingers go when you hold your hand out to the side like that.

Here's the way I heard it when I got my R* two years ago (by the way it's my first "roadie" bike, and I think I lucked into a great choice.

The two fingers extended down to the left indicate "Keep two on the ground"....sort of a good-luck guesture, and a sign of cameraderie.

I've even taken it so far as to make sure that my wife (when we ride 2-up) makes the "sign" when we're cornering or I can't otherwise reciprocate.

Make sense?
