I really enjoy mantises... the bright green one looked big enough to be a female. The brown ones could have been courting her. The male does his best to bring her the BIGGEST thing he can catch, as a mating gift. This is in hopes that she will be so occupied eating his gift while he mates with her, that she won't start chewing on HIM, while he mates with her.
Sometimes, the male is actually successful in feeding her, and getting the job done, without getting eaten.

Not often though
