Re:How many deer hunters do we have? 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Here in Iowa huge deer are like mosquitos - tons of them. They are a real nuisance. Their only natural predator at this time is man (along with his cars, trucks, & motorcycles). It would suit me if there was an open season year round just to thin them out. Each morning on my ride to work (20 miles thru prime deer country) I go 45 - 50 mph and have my head turning left to right, scanning the ditches the whole trip. A little nerve racking at times. The deer do seem to respect my loud pipes though . In Iowa it's not "if" but "when" you hit a deer. I'm 56 now & have been quite lucky.
Sorry about the long winded post - just my thoughts on deer.

Hey, since we have a few bowhunters here... can anyone tell me what sort of bow is in this pic?
Bow Pic

Nice form....drawing the bow back I mean. Fish and game should use this photo to get more young boys interested in hunting instead of video games. Not enough young people into the outdoors these days. I spent a large chunk of growing up in the woods- camping, fishing, hunting etc... and have passed that on to my own son. Anyway here's alittle 5-point I got last year, Florida's not exactly known for trophy bucks, but there are a few out there.

I think I saw a couple of deer up here in Wisconsin, I tried to chase them across the river to Iowa.
Just got back from Youth Day at a local Rod & Gun. We had a good turn out of kids and they got to shoot .22, Shotgun, Bow, muzzleloader, and throw tomahawk. National Fish & Wildlife setup a fish tank, and a Game Warden gave a talk and answered questions.
I think it takes something like this to keep the kids interested in getting out.

Got rid of my guns a while back and don't hunt any more. Now I just run over collie dogs with my bike.

hey! im a hunter, i love to hunt and i love deer meat, BUT it would NOT hurt my feelings at all if the deer all died out... i love to ride and like you i see a lot of deer , more when the weather cools off, im in bienville parish in Louisiana, i have had a few close calls,
as a hunter im gonna do all i can too make riding here safe, and fill my frezzer at the same time!
Good luck riding and i hope you can get rid of a few deer too!! (with a gun)
