Just talked with my detail guy. For what it would cost to do it and shipping, it would not be feasible for you to go that route, at least not shipping it here to do it. I would go after the spray painter to buy you a new one. In fact, I would make him pay for a new paint job too. And don't forget your chrome, seats, handle grips, and anything else that has overspray on it. Hope he has insurance to cover it.

You can try googone we use that at work on things and it is a citrus based cleaner. I have found it very good on painted surfaces so it very well might work on the windshield too.

meguiars clay bar and quick detailer. it will def. work on all the paint. I would try a small section of the windshield to see if it will work there also. Just remember to wax it after you use it on paint.

I'd say don't touch a speck of it. Let insurance pay for everything to be cleaned to perfection and let them go after Mr.Painter. If he is not insured, he will be sued by them, or the building owner will have to use his property insurance.

Either way, you get it all cleaned and or replaced. New or like new? File the claim. Oh yeah, if you need to pay the deductible, suit the painter for that too + costs!

Oh one last thing.... buy a cover!

I know you are trying to help never use citrus on plastics it will cause milking and clouding. It penetrates deep in the pours. If you googone I would clay bar and then wax after if it works.

I know Mcguiers came out with a headlight restore kit might want to try that on the shield.

Good luck

I agree with Darn, I wouldn't touch a thing. If you start the job and it makes it worse, the insurance company may walk away and say it is your problem. I store my bike in a storage area in the winter and have always used a cover. Your bad luck will ensure I continue that practice. Good luck!

My detail guy said clay bar would work on the windshield in terms of getting the paint off, but it would leave the windshield opaque (hazy). He also said it depends on the type of paint on how successful it would be, how long it had been on there, and it may cause deformation in terms of viewing. Too many variables in my book. I am in the don't mess with anything camp until insurance (yours or his)has looked at it.

I personally fly 172's and 182's, but I use my detailer for a Citation and a 421 that I manage. I haven't flown in a long time though, I can't afford it. Too many other toys. Bass boat, motorcycle, Mustang. My aircraft detailer knows his stuff, he is the best, and he says taking paint off the windshield would depend on a lot of things, (see above post). Too many variables to guarantee success. It would at the least leave it without the coating.

I agree, let the insurance company get involved. I also like that you've got the city inspector coming by to check out the situation.
