Just an update. I have contacted the State Attorneys Office in Alabama, about 2 weeks ago. They said it will take about 8 weeks to process it since they get so many compaints. I decided to contact my credit card company a few days ago to see if they know anything about this company. Obviously they have never heard of or had any dealings with them. Today, I went to whitepages.com. They have what is called reverse lookup where you only have to have the phone number. It tells you where the number is based out of and also if it is a land line or cell phone. They have called several times in the past from a number in pheonix arizona. The company claims to be out of St. Paul Mn. Since I didn't answer the landline number they are now calling from a cell phone in pheonix arizona. I have also been getting calls from a cell phone from Omaha Nebraska (Nextel Carrier), and also calling from a cell phone from Pheonix Arizona. The calls that are coming from landlines are from Twin Cities Mn, Tempe Arizona, and Little Rock Arkansas. Also, with whitepages.com you can find out what carrier the cell phone number is with. I placed my number on the Do Not Call List back in February of this year. They are calling me now every single day approx 4-5 times per day 5 days per week and as late as approx 7:10 p.m. As I am typing this it is 3:46 p.m. and I have already received 4 calls since 10:00 a.m. I told them a few days ago that if they kept calling, I would just have my number changed. They said that if I did that, "that they have ways that they will track me down and get in contact with me". That in itself to me is a threat. I just wanted to let everyone who has read this know where I stand with this situation and to also watch out for them if they try and contact you.

Just did a search for great american reader, and found quite a few complaints about them going back a year or more up to just recently. Calling from different cell phone numbers around the country, promising a $1000 shopping spree, etc.

easyrider003, I don't know if it would help or not, but you might want to send a letter (or email) to your state attorney's office with this latest piece of news. Anything you can do to build a case against these crooks.

Yeah, I filled the one complaint about 2 weeks ago and also just filled another one yesterday. I never curse or say anything close to being misunderstood as a curse word, but these people are about to drive me to my breaking point. I just hope noone else has to ever deal with these people.

Thank you for bringing this up, and I'm sorry you're going through all this. My wife and I have had similar things happen, but not as vicious as this.

if you want to get them to stop calling you real quick, get one of those portable air horns and blow it directly in the phone. since most of them use headsets, that will definately get their attention real quick and make them afraid to call you again, for fear of hearing loss.

Get caller ID if you do not have it yet. Only answer calls that you recognize.
Simple enough. If they leave a message just delete it.

Holy crap, they are relentless, huh? I am very suprised that they keep coming after you since every call is probably costing them money and they have no way to get any money from you at this point.
Good luck with this and thanks for the heads up. With the economy in such dismal shape, I imagine that scammers will continue to find innovative ways to rip people off. Other than the annoyance, it sounds like you have this one under control. Keep us informed please.

Since they have began to threaten you, buy a small recording device and as you answer the phone turn it on and instead of saying hello state "Be aware I am recording this call and will forward any and all conversation to the State Attorneys Office" May or may not help, sorry you going through all the hassle hope things get better.

ANOTHER UPDATE!!! Sorry for the Rant, Guess its just my way of venting. This is the email/complaint that I have just sent to the State Attorneys Office.

I have already filed two previous complaints. I am wanting to file this third complaint and to let you know of another update with this company, Great American Reader.

This company is still harrassing me approx 3-5 times per day. This past week I have been attending a Fire Inspector Class through the State of Alabama. I am taking this class as part of my job as a career firefighter. I have not been able to concentrate all week in class because of this company calling continuously. Today alone, they called every thirty to forty five minutes, between approx 8:35 a.m. and 11:01 a.m.

During my lunch break today I returned a message that was left on my cell phone. A lady by the name of Sandy answered the phone and asked if I would like to arrange payment or allow them to proceed with "Legal Action". I politely declined and told her neither. I explained that I have already filed two complaints with your agency and also with the Better Business Bureau. I asked her if they were accredited with the BBB. She said that was did not know if they were or not. I explained to her that I have already researched them online and have discovered that they were not accredited. I also explained to her that I have already filed one complaint with the BBB. I have received an email from the BBB and the email expalined that GAR has a rating of unsatisfactory. I can forward you a copy of that email if necessary.

The operator, Sandy, asked what she wanted me to do. I asked for them to quit calling me constantly and harrassing me. As I previously said, I advised her that I have already filed two complaints with your agency and that the ONLY way that I am going to pay, is if the State Attorneys office says that I have to pay. I explained that your office advised me of the time period it would possibly take to return my phone calls/emails and that once I hear from your office, I will continue from there. Again, she said what would you like me to do? I said for them to quit calling and asked that she would record the information I gave her about me waiting to hear from you. She said that she would make the note, but that they would continue calling every day, just like they have been doing in the past.

I also advised her that since they called claiming they were with my credit card company, I called my credit card company to verify that they have a working relationship. The credit card company said they have never heard of this company nor have they dealt with them. I asked her how she thought it was legal to try to sale me something using that sales pitch. She advised me that they never said they were with my credit card company, but that they were with my credit company. Who would be my Credit Company? I have never heard of a "Credit Company"? Isn't that illegal for them to access my credit score without my permission? Please help! I am getting very stressed. Call me at 334-864-1135 for any further questions.

Get as raunchy, perverted and explicit as it takes to have her hang up on you. I seriously don't think Sandy would continue to call too often after a few rounds like that. If they have a guy call after all that, ask similar questions about his mother, wife and/or daughter ... and if he doesn't know the answers, proceed to tell him! Again, this is a 'he said - she said' situation and I don't think we'll be seeing you and them on Judge Judy anytime soon.
