"Wasn't able to slow down"? Was his brakes not working? Not able to slow down? Maybe if he had hit his brakes he would have been able to slow down. I drive with my headlight on high beam during the day just because I know too many "don't see us". Florida is loaded from top to bottom with my MC Brothers, I hope it was none of them and I wish it was not anyone. No reason, and no excuse for this to happen. Condolences to the families.

Cagers don't pay attention or care. 2 weeks ago on the way home I had a guy in a piece of
crap lifted Bronco 1st pull out in front of me. Then I pass him, 3 lights and a mile down the
road I see him behind me in the right lane. I signal to change into the left lane so I can turn
and go home. As I move into the left lane the guy pulls into the left lane without signaling and accelerates
undercutting me. I check my mirror at the last minute to see him pull up under me,
just as I see his bumper near my knee as we are now sharing the same lane. Luckily I was
able to pull back into the right lane, I look at the guy and he cruises by like nothing
even happened !! I thought about following this guy and smacking the crap put of him but
figured he was to thick to gain anything from it.
Watch your A** and keep your head on a swivel,
Chris

lots of people dont realise the vehicle doesn't pass another at 80 like it could at 40MPH. and the necessary distance to do so is much shorter. I myself slow to get a running start before going around somone.

there was once a day when i had a lincoln Mk V which at 70 i could easily pass 2 semi trailers and 3-4 cars in less than their entire overall length doin 40-50, like they were standin still, and my R* doesnt go in any gear like that ol 460 lincoln did when you tromped on it.

yep more condolenses to fellow 2wheelers, how sad 2 nice mid 50's couples out for a ride, mindin their own business when all of a sudden they seen this guy, from out of nowhere put a steel wall right infront of them, probly 140MPH between them. that's bout 200 feet per second, 400 feet before your brain can really consider what to do...

heed the warning to pull to the right in single file when passing oncoming traffic if there is no side roadway to move over safely onto, even if your all doin 75.

be aware for them (the cagers) is all we can do...

I find the cagers are unaware of us on bikes more so this time of year. They haven't had to worry about bikes all winter. As awful as this incident is, I'm sure the driver didn't see them. By "see", I mean that the image was not acknowledged in his brain as a vehicle. Unless he had murder on his agenda, he would not have purposely pulled into the path of the bikes. This is not to say he should not be punished for his actions. I just remember from college somewhere (oh so long ago), that even if you see something, sometimes you don't "see" it.

Prayers to the families left behind.

Paul

I agree with you Paul.

But what an absolute tragedy this is.

One more BIG reason to have more than just your stock headlight. I am a firm believer in a lamp bar and having them on all the time... and the brights on during the day.

I have my light bar lamps tilted up like brights and man... do I show up as a ball of light... even during bright sunny days.

I have no one acting like they are going to pull out in front of me anymore; which is not to say I don't continue to think and act like they will.

If you're a believer(as I am)that running with lights on with full hi-beam and the more lights the better, then you should also be running a modulator as well. Studies show a modulating light is much more attention getting than a static glowing headlamp. A cheap part for the benefit and installation is as simple as simple can be.

Units to modulate headlight as well as brake light can be had for under $100 so there's no excuse really.

I'm with you on that one Mark7. I have had cagers pull up next to me to tell me "something wrong with your lights,...ahh.. keeps flashing" guess it got their attention. One of those things that you will never know if it saved your butt.I also went to the 110watt bulb. Fireman is correct, every spring same old bull.

Years ago a cager did that to a whole group of us one night. A carload of punks who had a beef with bikers for some reason. They didn't know we had a chase vehicle with us. Our chase vehicle came around and pushed them off in the ditch at an intersection. When we left there was not a piece of glass left in that cage anywhere and the occupants were waiting for the ambulance to arrive. They got a hard education that night.
