this will touch your heart. It may have no effect on you at all if you haven't experienced any time with a child who has it. We have my 12 yr old grandson with us this weekend and he is autistic. We were browsing the net and found this.

Certain things stimulate these children. They often are hyper-sensitive. Others have no "scale" for auditory or speech output, or even touch. I have met a child that does not respond to pain. Think of how hard that must be.
This young guy probably has a heightened senses of taste, smell, hearing and touch, and it may be difficult for him to find things that give him pleasure.
My son is 8 years old and has Aspberger's Syndrome, a mild form of Autism. We are furtunate in that the most difficult things for him are social interaction and pragmatics of speech, alothough it took 2 years of speech therapy to get him beyond 2 and 3 word utterances at the age of 4. He is now excelling in school, and growing like a weed. It is amazing how far he has come. Ask my 8 year old anything a high schooler should know about dinosaurs, and he's got it! Steam trains are a close second.
My son, and this little guy it seems, are what they call "sensory seekers". They are very curious, and they search for positive stimuli. My son came in our bedroom one morning with clothes pins all over his nose, lips, ears, and fingers! We ask him if it hurt, he said he did not know, but it made him feel a lot!
Strange stuff. God Bless all that are afflicted. It can be so very mild, or horribly severe, and I feel for every one of them and the parents that must help them learn and grow.

JD750ace, my grandson went thru the dinosaur thing as well. Now he is into guns of all types. he knows stuff about guns that I would not even think of.
He is also a video game whiz. Give him about any game and he will beat it in the first or second sitting. You literally have to make him put it down or he will go for hours without eating or sleeping.

My son seems to have a gift for visual acuity. Hawk vision is what the doctor calls it. He read the marquee on the side of the MetLife blimp from nearly 6 miles away! He sees many things I do not, as he is hyper sensitive to movement in his field of view. He's still to young for it to be measured or anything, but it's very impressive as it is, without being defined.

Yes, some of the things Ethan (grandson) can do is awesome. Some things very frustrating, he is very touch sensitive as well. He won't wear socks with a seam in the toe, they have to feel a certain way, same with his underwear, there can't be tags and the seams have to be in a certain place. He will only wear certain shoes, very frustrating at times. he says some types of clothing hurts him. As you know every thing is a process, trial and error until you find what works.
the thing with your son's vision is very neat. Never heard of that before.
