Kansas City BBQ??? 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hey KC guys. I'm going to be in town next week for a couple of days. I have one free night Wednesday. If you had one night in KC where would you go for BBQ? I was thinking about going to Oklahoma Joe's just from internet reviews. But where do the locals go?

Tykesplace,

I'm not a local, but my riding group goes down there twice a year from Omaha. You hit the nail on the head. Regardless of what we do when we get down there, we always head to Oklahoma Joe's(try the burnt ends, ribs, and onion rings). It's tied for first in my BBQ book with "The Shed" near Ocean's Springs, Mississippi. If any of you fellow riders ever get a chance, please check one or both of these places out. You won't be disappointed.

I live here and I agree that OK Joe's is tops!
If you get south of KC on the Kansas side, be sure to try K&M Barbecue in Spring Hill, KS. That's a great spot also.

If anyone's up for meeting over some food and a beer or three at OK Joe's on Wednesday just send me a pm and give you my cell #. I won't have my bike but it would be cool to check out others.

+ a million for Oklahoma Joe's!!!!! I'm currently in SoCal, but originally from St. Louis. I went to college in Maryville, MO (1 1/2 north of KC). My best friend is from KC and I go there usually once a year. We always go to Oklahoma Joe's. Hands down the best BBQ I've ever had, period. I've come close to BBQing that good myself a few times, but I'm not sure I'd beat them on my best day. Even their cole slaw is great.

I'm sure you know or have read, but plan on a good wait. At meal times, the line is a decent way out the door. It was originally out of a gas station, and still is, but they've expanded the back to include a decent seating area. When you go, order the hogamaniac platter. Trust me on this one, it's not on the menu, and is $20 or $25 bucks, but worth every penny and then some!

Seriously, this place is awesome. It's worth a trip to KC all on it's own. Man, you got me hungry now!

Wow, good recommendation. Making me hungry too. I think I might have to skip breakfast and lunch and show up mid afternoon. Best BBQ I've ever had was the Salt Lick in TX. Gonna be hard to beat that, but I'll do my best to give Joe's the opportunity.
Offer still stands, if anyone wants to meet up Wed just PM me. I'll buy ya a beer.

Good call on Oklahoma Joe's! Went there straight from the airport. For work they took us to Gates BBQ which just made Joe's look that much better. So I went again yesterday before leaving town.

Spent some time in the Westport district and Kelly's bar. Also went to the WW1 museum which was pretty interesting. Learned some stuff I didn't know. Took the Harley Davidson plant tour. It was slow though. The crews work 4 10's so there was just one overtime crew making tanks on Friday. Still neat to see how they do everything.
