I quit the week my son was born 8 years ago. Diapers cost more than cigarettes for a day's worth back then, and I did not want my children to ever see me smoke. I probably would not have taken it up, but when I was growing up EVERYBODY smoked, so, ya just kinda figure that's what you do when you grow up. Wish I had 17 years worth of cigarette money saved up!
I don't think there is a worse environment this side of a gas chamber than the inside of a '74 Monte Carlo in a thunderstorm with both of your parents yelling at each other and chain smoking Salems!
As far as the woman being ignorant, let's not insult ignorance. Nobody is ignorant to the effects of smoking. Lots of lawyers shared over 660 Million dollars making sure that everyone knows.
My dad told me, at a time when I was an "ignorant Savant"
"Son, there's no shame in ignorance. Embarassment, but not shame. Ignorance can be cured, stupidity is permanent!" He was telling my that I could learn from my mistakes, and prove I was just ignorant, or continue to make them, knowing the outcome, and just be stupid. I love my dad.
Mom (1984) and dad (1994) both quit eventually.
