Very Sorry to hear. I'll pray for them and the families. Horrible situation, someone's negligent as far as the wheel coming off goes.

Sad to hear. I love how they point out the lack of helmets, but have nothing to say at all about a negligent driver who killed the one and put the other in hte hospital. He should be charged with vehicular manslaughter.

Its very sad to see and hear that.
It looks like the wheel came off.How can you not know that was happening. It sounds like they are blaming the riders.

When a wheel's not tight, it'll rattle and vibrate alot before it leaves the vehicle.

But then, if the driver doesn't know any better... they had no idea what was happening while it was making noise and vibrations.

A few years ago I went to a tire store and had new custom wheels and tires put on my truck. On the way home (about 30 miles) the truck started shuddering and before I could get it stopped I lost a wheel. Apparently they either didn't get the lugs tight or over tightened them as I didn't have a lug stud left on that corner. I was lucky in that the tire and wheel stayed in the wheel well and all the damage was confined to the body in that area. No one got hurt.
I always guessed that the lugs had been put on too tight and the studs were stretched. Usually with loose lug nuts the will spin off and at least one or two studs would survive. That didn't happen in my case.
If you notice the shot in the video of the missing wheel there are no studs left on the hub. There's no telling how it happened without some expert analysis.
