You have to pin the supressor, even on a 16.1" barrel? When I built mine (soooo many years ago, when I could afford it) I got a Bushmaster 1:9 CMP M4 barrel and had the Vortex pinned and soldered to make the 16 inch mark. I used GGG flip-ups and a ACOG Reflex sight, and one of the (then new) HK style grips. Standard double shielded M4 front grips, and a "pre-ban" Bushmaster lower. Sweet gun. Plowed 1600 rounds through it on Thunder Ranch's Urban Rifle Course. Good Times. The Black Rifle rocks.
Any particular reason you would want the 1:7 over the 1:9? We had 1:7 twist 20" rifles slinging the jackets off 65-69 grain bullets back in the day. They were great with 52 and 55 grain bullets. The Nosler Ballistic tips would snap the tip off and keyhole at 100 yards, about 18" from point of aim. Ah, yeah. I'd like to have the option of shooting heavy steel core 75 grain, which just isn't gonna work with the 1 in 9. But I mostly buy the bulk NATO stuff which is 55 grain ,it will be all good.

If you are going strictly 55 grain, 1:7 is the stuff, IMHO.

I really didn't mean to start a big political thing here, fact is I don't trust any of them. They all have their boot on our necks. I just have a real bad feeling about where we are heading in this country. Any way, if any of you guys who live in states that don't require the need for pre-ban mags have some, help a brother out. I will buy em from you. NY sucks.

I've been looking at either a Sig 556 or an HK 416 (or, to be civilian specific, the MR556) for a while. The nice thing about having my folks' place in Maine is that I can buy them there.
I was also looking at a 1.5x ACOG for which one I get. I had a chance to try one out a few years back, and man, they are nice, but wicked expensive.
WOOOO, looked at a HK today, $2499! wow, way above my budget. I'd never shoot a gun that cost that much.

Sweet build Irishman! I just picked up a Ruger SR9c with a 17 round and 10 round mag for under $300.00. Just a plinker but couldn't pass on the price.
That gun will never fail you, I have buddy who has put probably 10K rounds through his at this point.

Back to the topic of guns, a while ago I came across (free) an old Norinco that was still in cosmoline. Not liking the gun much I recently tore it down and with the help of our BATF (read 922r compliant) built a nice little "evil black gun". The 7.62 round will be available world-wide regardless (as will the .223/5.56) so I fugured what the heck. Now it doesn't have the range of the aforementioned, but I'm not a Delta or a SEAL either. And with the door breacher 1300 I made and assorted goodies I'm pretty well off. However, you made a very good point about ammo, and I have been stocking the shelves whenever there's a sale
I liked the Norinco I had. Traded it off towards a Benelli M4 . AK's are about the best all around weapon platform there is. I wish I could find a milled receiver AK for a reasonable price.

Irishman, I don't care to argue my political views at this time, but like you, I have the same gut feeling as you for awhile now.
There for awhile I didn't have a gun.
I think if you can buy one without registering it that would be better.
Right now here we can buy from a private party without paper work.
I am planing to build up a Ruger .22 auto in addition to the auto shotgun I have now.
These are not arsenals, but they are adequate for me.
Anyhow buddy, I think you are spot on. Its not if, its when.
Thanks for the reminder that I'm not just going paranoid.
