If you are doing it by yourself, a 2x4 will help move to pry the rear tire to help take the pressure off of the shock bolts.
If I remember right, I did have to adjust the belt tension.
I lifted my bike and then sat it on 2 stacks of boards, then removed the jack to allow me easier access.

I put mine on four point blocks and slid a piece of wood under the rear tire to just contact it firmly but not to raise the swing arm much. That seemed to be enough to take the load off the bolts. It's actually a lot easier to remove the tire and the plastic mud guard that's held on with four small bolts.. it makes everything much nicer and way more accessible. I've done it both ways. The little bit of extra work is worth it. You may or may not have to readjust the belt. Just recheck it to the manual. Good luck!
