fliping the dog bone 5 Years, 6 Months ago
I weigh 250lbs, I want to flip the dog bone in my o3 roadstar but with my weight and a 3 inch drop, is it gonna cause my bike to bottom out on bumps or potholes? or should I buy the baron lowering kits with the 1.5 inch drop?

You can turn up the preload on the shock to firm up the ride but I think you will still have a problem. But try it out for yourself; it won't cost you anything but time.

You can also buy different size 'dogbones' which will lower you to specific heights.

Try the R* Riders Forum as there are guys making the dogbones for some good prices.

Need to learn...what's the technical term for a "dogbone" and where is it?

Thanks

Well, badboy is actually talking about flipping the relay arm in the suspension, which is hands down the cheapest way to lower a R*. But you can also buy extended dog bones to do the job. The dogbones connect to the relay arm and are part of the suspension that connects the relay arm to the shock (one end - the other end of the shock hooks directly to the relay arm.

If you go to http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/parts/home.aspx and put in your year and model (if you don't know model pick any road star - this is the same for all of them) you can click on the rear suspension arm link to get a full parts breakout. On the picture I got picking a 2003 XV1600 AR Roadstar the relay arm is part number 11, the dogbones (there are two) are parts number 12.

Yes, at 230lbs, I drag my frame way too often. With my better half on board, it's even worse. I think I'm just gonna reverse it back to stock ....

edit: I also have to pump up the tires to 35 fr/40rr psi.

BIG difference over stock I haven't lowered yet but, other guys have with this spring and it works great.

I just did the dog bone flip yesterday. also put in the pcs progressive springs front and rear.
the test ride around the block was great. Seems pretty hard to bottom out but need more testing. Rear shock adjusted at about halfway.
The bike looks great, I can't get pictures to load onto this forum.

Also I'm 6'2" @ 295# so I gotta be workin it.

Check out the sig pic instructions in the General - Non MC folder.

Make sure your pic is less that 450 wide and high and less that 50 kb or the site may refuse to load it.
