Looks like one Bennie of having a Bike........down the drain. In same regards, sometimes I just hate to take up a whole spot with my bike when everyone is scrambling for a spot, but guess I'll have to conform to the enforcers, a ticket would spoil my day. What do they call that? Getting chicken something....???? I forget. Anyways, thanks for the tip. Ohio isn't as CS as South and West of here, but the LEO's normally jump on the wagon that pays the best. MC

I don't see the problem. You broke the law. Why do you think bikers get such a bad rap? I usually find great parking very close to front doors in parking spots with cars too close for another car to fit in.

Also, if you had a job where every piece of paper you wrote ensured your job security wouldn't you be writing a lot of papers?

Isriam, for me, if I parked in a HC zone I should get a fine. No problem there...however if I was parked in a non-HC zone and my front tire encroached a bit and got a ticket for it, yeah I'd be steamed.

I understand the whole point of having HC parking. Using those spaces was essential while I had my elderly in-laws living with me. Neither of them could walk very far and since they had the HC access permits we could park there.

Now and then we'd find some A-hole who thought they were better than everyone else and figured WTH, and they would take the only remaining HC spot.

In this case the intent was clearly not to park in the zone, but space was limited and the best was made of the situation. The fact that there were 3 other spaces open pretty much tells the tale on why this ticket was written.

Technically should a ticket have been written: By the letter of the law, yes. Was the fine appropriate for the "crime"? I don't think a reasonable person would agree that is was.

Like Andy Taylor used to say: The law is the law, but sometimes you have to use your head when you go about "sheriff'n".

Make sense?

Technically he said he had his front tire in the cross blue lines. That says "NO PARKING" to me, and I'd stay out of it. If i were handicapped, or a policeman, I'd have taken notice to someone violating a simple rule that everyone knows.

My Front tire was in the white crosshatch lines that seperated the disabled parking and the bike parking.

Anyone ever park in front of a grocery store or a walmart. I mean in front of the building (not the entrance but the sidewalk along the building). I do. Often wondered if this is illegal?

I would expect that LEO's have the authority to ticket you for parking in a HC space due to the federal mandate associated with ADA laws.

I can't see how they could ticket you for any other parking infraction unless the private property owners had given them the specific right to do so on their behalf.

I would expect that if asked by management to remove your bike from the sidewalk that you'd be obliged to do so or risk a trespass violation.

Like most folks who ride bikes I try to leave full sized spaces for cars and park my bike out of the way in other areas. Given this thread about the $400 parking ticket I may have to reconsider that practice. Remember, I'm not an attorney, nor do I even play one on TV, but if I did I'd probably be Denny Crane.

I have not parked up next to the building but I see the cops do it all the time. Yea.. I know.... they're on duty.... right.

Anyway, I am always leary of doing that because of the cart boys and anyone wanting to pull a truck up to load something perhaps.

I never park in a handicap zone... but I used to pull into the blue striped line area which is huge at the end of the row... although I will have to rethink that I guess and regulate myself to the yellow striped area at the end of the row.

Up next to the building.... if there is a "Fire lane" sign any where in the area, or a "no parking" sign... absolutely not.

I've seen others park in the cross hatched areas too. The only reasons I don't are... 1)I put too much money into my bike for someone to hit it with a wheelchair while trying to get in/out of their vehicle.( they make those areas large for a reason.) 2) I like showing off the bike, but not to the extent of taking the risk of a large ticket. I'll park in a full size space and try to avoid car doors hitting my bike. My 2¢ anyhow.
