I guess I'm lucky when it comes to parking at Wally World or any large parking lot. I usually park in the striped area near a light pole close to the entrance. No problems yet, but I may reconsider in the future. The Po Po doesn't mess with bikes much here in Iowa - unless you're going wayyyyy too fast.

the stupid kids and their irresponsible more stupid parents. Too bad you can't counter sue for stupidity. Would you touch the exhaust of a car? Sorry, that story just hit a nerve. I park in these places and will continue to as long as the property owner or LEO doesn't ask me to move in which case I will, and again, I'm respectful. I don't block access to shopping carts, block access of the handicapped, park near any door or fire lane or obvious traffic path. So far no one has said anything to me.

Pretty much the way I see it, and how I do it too.

I just talked to a friend of mine who is a sargent for the Sebring Police. He said that hash lines mean "do not park here" and that means don't park anything there! They can write you up and here in Florida the fine is $250.00.

I am just wondering, has anyone here OUTSIDE of the Democratic People's Republic of Kalifornia been ticketed for this? Down here in my little Texas town, the cops park on the "super-sidewalk" at Wally World, right beside everyone else.

Will not say any names because that always gets me in trouble. But I must say that If a 4year old touchs your hot pipes I really think that falls more into fanscination then stupidity. To a child that young it is just a nice big shiny object to them and not a hot pipe.

Come on get real and look how many kids burn their hands on top of stoves. (is that also stupidity).

Sorry had to vent because as a dad that raised a kid i take offense to us being called stupid parents with stupid kids. Yes I will admit that If the child is old enough and has been taught about hot pipes then that could fall into stupidity.

TOPNOTCH, I never said you were a stupid parent with stupid kids.

I'm a parent of 4 and have been a father for over 20 years. I've had my fair share of coming home and having to keep my kids off the bike. I understand the fascination. I really didn't mean stupid kids, I mean irresponsible or distracted parents who don't keep their kids away from danger. Its a constant vigilance and one moment of distraction can cause harm to your child. Again, common sense says an engine is hot and so is its exhaust. Sure, preschoolers need to learn that. I know these things are shiny and kids may be drawn to them. But what is a 4 year old doing going up to a bike? Where's his parent(s)? What is a parent doing letting the kid touch the bike? So the village (me as a biker) is responsible for the kid (touching my bike (not the kid's or parent's property)), but the parent isn't?

We have parents here in Phoenix that have pools and the kids get into them and die because the parent wasn't watching their kid. We had a pool for all of my kids. We knew where our kids were at all times (till they were like 10yrs old), kept doors locked, etc. I'm sure there are similar problems in California and Florida where there are a lot of built-in swimming pools. So what do you call these so called parents? Some people have kids but aren't parents if you know what I mean. When you're a parent, they become your top priority. I'm sure some of them will never get over it and will blame themselves forever. They should. It was their fault and they should go to jail for it too. To many innocent kids are dying because of irresponsible parents and I'm tired of it.

Perhaps bad choices of words on my end and hope I didn't offend you, but I have a good knack at that. Reading this first post about being sued really made me angry. I admit my choice of "stupid kids" was wrong, unless they're old enough to know better. I agree with you there. I suppose my intention was "its stupid for the kid being there and why is the kid touching a bike". "Stupid parents", I don't know. I could think of worse more appropriate words for some of these parents. There are plenty out there. Why do people think a statement about a situation is talking about them personally? I never said all parents and kids are stupid, nor did I say you or your kids were stupid. I'm sorry if you took it that way.

out of protection for my bike i try to park up front in any parking lot away from all 4wheelers. i refuse to put my bike in a regular spot out in the middle of walmart just to have buggies and doors slammed into it! I have never parked on the sidewalk or up against a building though, I always stay in the lot.

Down here in the south the cops are pretty good bout not issuing citations...its called southern hospitality!

When I go to walmart I take the truck because I buy to much stuff! If I do ride to a store my wife will usually ride along side me and then one of us stays outside with the bikes. Call it paranoid or whatever but It makes me feel better.
