I too have raised 2 kid's now in their 20's,and at 4 years old I can promise you I had already had the teaching to them what hot meant and if it feels hot don't touch. My dog knows that. Come on , I know, how about a leash for your kid. They used to have those when parents were responsible for your kid's actions. I bet that kid will teach his kids about this about 25 years from now. My $2 worth and have more.

Back to the parking. I parked way up on a paved walkway near a theater. My nephew is a cop and I asked him if I'm parked legaly (sp). He said cops like bikes and not to worry about it. I live in Calif.in Central Ca.Maybe this valley likes bikes better that So. Cal.As far as I know nobody has gotten any tickets.Yes I park at Wally World in the crossed area and no problem. I have a trike and take up more room and still I've been ok. Lucky? Maybe. Ken

On the parking next to a building it is a fire code violation. Egress areas are marked non parking designated areas are not. I understand and can't say I haven't done it myself. Maybe look at it like this Big Red truck in hurry and wants your spot next to building burning. All I can say is BMW in front of hydrant not a pretty pic. He went to jail he was so pist off.

What ever happend to teaching our kids "If it's not yours...Leave it alone"? It's not the kid's fault, it's the parent's for neglecting to teach their kids to respect other people's property.
My .02 anyway.

In Wisconsin, you can park 3 motorcycles to a single stall legally, however, if the meter runs out, all 3 get tickets. Too many riders around here won't share a spot with other bikers unless you rode in with them. In parking lots, you can park as many as will fit in a slot, but you can not park in the hashmarked areas or up by the bicycle's, because it's a "Motorized" vehicle, and that includes mopeds.

Daughter has a temp tag for the choice spots and sometimes she leaves it in our car. It's tempting to use it and "fake" a limp but my conscience says no. Even thought about putting it on the bike just to see the reactions. Nope, not worth it. Nowadays the financial lessons hurt pretty bad.

If it is a fire code violation to park next to the building how can Walmart, K-mart, and others fill up their sidewalks and entrance ways with displays of seasonal sales items such as grills, patio furniture, lawn care equipment, palletized wood, pumpkins, Christmas trees, and on and on. I would wonder how a ticket could be issued for a parked bike when these others are clearly violations aren't they?

You forgot to mention the groups that set up bake sales and so forth there to raise money. Whoooo, you are really on to a good point though. MC

I was about to park in a cross hatched white area when the local law informed me it was illegal. I said I thought I was helping save a space and would move - he said thanks. I guess I caught a bigger break than I thought for - $400 is mighty steep for a parking violation.

I have parked in the past on the front sidewalk of my local Wally world, just like two people who work there do. But I think I will reconsider from this info.
