Re:Floorboard Extensions for the Road Star 2 Years, 11 Months ago
Just did this modificaiton over the weekend. I have not had it on the road yet but also have found the 15 degree angle to be a bit much (also tall guy 6' 3". Thanks for the ideas - I beleive I will make a second set without the angle and see how that works. Anyone found a way to use the engine guards after this modification?

if you do a search on the forums, you can find a lot of info on this subject, depending on what brand of guards and extenders..

Slot the hole so you can adjust the angle. The Yami big bar work with the extenders. That's what I have on my bike.

I was wondering about those floor board exts',Do you think that they have to be 3/8 thick or would 1/4 do? I don't stand on the floor boards.
I went and made a set yesterday(1/4) without reading all the comments. Now, I'm having second thoughts about the 15 deg. angle, plus the brake line thing and do I really need them or do I JUST WANT THEM?? I was wondeing if there was a particular way of not necessarily extending them very far but going with a 10-15 angle or an adjustable one.
So thats my story. Ideas ??

when i made mine i didnt want the brake line that tight so i made them 2 1/2 inches and tilted 10 degrees.1/4 steel didnt seem strong enough to suit me so i used 3/8.

here is a good tech tip for installing floor board extensions. Don't forget to use lock tight, good way to screw up a new paint job. I installed mine and spaced off the lock tight. Well about six months later i got a new paint job. Was on a week and my right front assembly lost a bolt in the black hills and rotated forward scratching the hell out of the back of my front fender. Long story shot I stole a bolt from the frame until I got to my friends ranch 30 miles away in hill city. Then I lock tighted the crap out of it.
man was my paint guy mad.

I don't suppose you tried the extensions yet did you? If so,what do you think? Good ,bad or indifferent? I'm more inclined to go with your mods so I may try that when I ge the steel. I havethe other style made but the bike is in storage so can't get the feel!

I like mine been on about 3 years now. moved forward 2.5 or 3 inches and I don't remember the angle but helped me stretch out some. I am only 5'11" so if you are taller than that I don't know how they will work.
