Fuel Pump Relocate HELP! 8 Years, 3 Months ago

I need help. I'm in the middle of the Baron fuel pump relocate kit, and I've notive two wires under the carb that aren't attached to anything. Or, at least I don't think they were. The dealer put a V&H jet kit on the bike, as well as the Longshot pipes. Could they have left these two wires unattached? They were attached to the pump/carb fuel line. One is a push-on connector, and the other is a screw/bolt on connector. Do I leave these unattached? Please HELP!!!

Those don't sound familiar Tbone,
Are they both push ons, one a spade connector and one pin connector?

One is a pin, the other a spade, but the male end is still attached. I called Baron's, and he told me they were the connectors to the carb heater. I took the carb off, looked around, and could not find anyplace to reconnect them. I did find a washer kind of wedged between the engine case and a bolt head. I appears the carb heater has FALLEN OFF!! |

Depending on where you live, that really might not be a problem.
And you'll conserve about 40 watts of precious electricity from your stator.
I understand the screw in part now. The tip of the carb heater has a screw in pin that the pin connector slides onto. Sounds like you got to keep the pin...
I have run without carb heat on both bikes. DocShadow gave a pretty good explanation for what the carb heat does in another thread. I haven't had any trouble running without it, in either Arkansas (rode down to high 20 degrees) or California.
If you relace it, be sure not to tighten it down too hard, they strip out if you do.

Well, I'm not planning on replacing it unless it gives me problems...
Now my fuel guage doesn't work. I put the bike all back together, tested for leaks, etc... started it up, and fuel guage sits on empty... great... now what?

Did you remember to hook the gas tank sensor back up? Its the green plug that is at the rear of the tank, and tends to jut out into the area under the nose of the seat.

Yes, I did. The gas guage makes a sweep when I turn the key on, but that's it.

Well, at least you know its getting power to the gauge.
Lets see if anyone else chimes in here with a suggestion Tbone. The plug is the usual cause and you already got that.
If no one does, you might need to pull the tank and just check to be sure the wiring didn't get damaged somehow.

How much gas do you have in it? Remember that if the float has settled (like maybe it was leaning to one side or standing up) that it takes a while to come back up. When I refull my tank it takes a couple of minutes to creep back to full.

The tank is about full (only 20 miles or less after filling). I've been reading other forums, and have learned to check the fuse, check the green connection, disconnect the battery for 15 minutes. If none of those fix it, I will check the wires to the green clip for pinching or cutting. How do I check these wires, if that's the case?
