Modifying your swingarm for a 240 tire - Poor Mans 240 4 Years, 4 Months ago
This thread discusses the Content article: Modifying your swingarm for a 240 tire - Poor Mans 240

I have a couple of questions Grey.

Did you use an HD pulley for a technical reason? Or can I use a Road Star pulley?

What size stock did you use to make the caliper mount tab on the swingarm?

I used the HD pulley as I had to run an 1-1/8 belt for clearance,I dont think the stock pulley with 1-1/2 belt will clear the tire.

I just used some 3/16 flat stock,as all it does it keep the caliper from rotating.

Hey Doug and all,

Doug do you mean you didn't have to cut the swingarm except for the tabs and cleanup the area? I'd like to stuff a 200 series under a project bike I just bought and if I could do this myself it would save me considerable dollars.

Any grinding on sub frame etc?

Thanks,

Art

Hey Art
Long time no talk I cant say for sure on the 200,I ran a 180 for a while on a stock rim, with just minimum grinding on the sub.If you are just going with a 200 all you should have to do is a little grinding on the sub and maybe a little on the brake stay, easiest thing is remove the fender from the sub, then you can see exactly what needs removed.Didnt say what size wheel you are using,Im using a one off 16x7 offset laced to my stock hub to stuff the 240 in there.Several guys are running 200's with minimum moodes....Doug

DUH! Sorry about that Grey. I'll be getting a new rim for the 200, just don't want to go much bigger than that on the rear. I'd like it to have some semblence of handling characteristics when I get done.

Thanks,

Art

Yup. Thats what I was looking for! I just ordered the 200 and rim from Britt's yesterday. I gotta make a post over at the garage on springer front ends and trail measurements.

Thanks Grey!

Hi,
This is my first post, and any help would be appreciated. I have a 2000 R and love to ride. It's time for tires, so I have been looking at various sites about wide tire kits and etc. My inclination is to do it myself. Found the 240 experience by Grey and really became intruiged by the excellent results. So, can I go with an 18X8.5 rim, and will it still require a 1/2 inch offset to the brake side? Thanks and God Bless
EJ

In a word NO.A 7 inch wide rim is all thats going to fit in the stock swing arm with a 240,and then you will have to stick pretty close to the way I did it.Its just a matter of room. If I can be of further help drop me an e-mail at (grey46@verizon.net) and I will be glad to help if I can.
