Charging '101' for Yamaha Road Stars 1 Year, 10 Months ago
This thread discusses the Content article: Charging '101' for Yamaha Road Stars

I replaced the rectifier a while ago and it seemed to work but now when i go for long rides the charging system stops working and my battery goes dead, does this sound like the rectifier or the stator? the charging system works perfect when i charge the battery and the engine is cold.

Did you go thru the entire trouble shooting procedure? It should be evident which component is bad...

you need to start with a known good battery, then do the AC test off the stator, idle test and a rev test for AC voltage. you can really skip the ohm test of the stator, the AC test will for sure tell you if the stator is good or not. also inspect the the 5 pin connector plug at the rectifier, make sure there is no corrosion and that the pins are seated all the way in, give a slight tug on the wires, if the pin pops out, then it wasn't seated and locked in and will cause poor and intermittent contact
