Does anybody know how big you can go with a set of apes and the stock cables?

Probably not more that 10" apes. Even then, you might have to get creative on the routing.

10" rise is considered "miniape", for normal cable routing you need +4". The OEM routing has the cables going down in front of the handlebars and in front of the upper tripple tree. As was previously mentioned with "creative routing" you can probably get away with the stock cables. Have the cables cross to behind the bars and go down behind the tripple tree.

As you see.....i have 10' baby apes with the stock cables and brake hose. you may be able to get away with with the 12's if you change the front brake hose.

Just out of curiosity sake I installed my 12" bars tonight and the only thing I will have to buy (right now) is an extended upper brake hose, its about 4" short. Btw I already lengthened the wires so im not sure on that.

So 8.5" baby apes should work well with stock or do they need to be changed around as well?
