Tyre weR 6 Months, 1 Week ago
Hi all,
Anyone here have a stock back tyre that 'scallop's' even though tyre pressures are kept up? My last metzler did it and now this one too, I'm threatening it with a phat arse back end if it don't behave

you don't say what psi you are using. the front needs a minimum of 38psi if I recall what was on Metz site. I use 40 on f and 42 r. I've gone thru my share of metz tires, 10 rear and 5 front. only had one front scallop because I didn't keep up with the pressure.

Any way, go to metz site and look it up I would suggest. You cannot use the pressure that Yamaha recommends for the stock tires, you have to use the psi that the tire manufacturer recommends.

G' day Erbman,
Yep my pressure is as recommended by local bike shop F 36, and R 40 psi. Perhaps I need to try 40 and 42 respectively. Will look at Metz site.

My Metzler book states 40 to 42 front, 40 to 45 rear

I run 42 front, 45 rear. NEVER had a problem with cupping since....., Plus the bike rides better, like its riding on a rail

Re:Tyre weR 6 Months, 1 Week ago
I had the same thing with two sets of Metz run at 45PSI rear and 42PSI front. The front was scallopped but not to the point of failure and did get a good number of miles out of the front. The rears scallopped to the point of carcass failure and developed several internal bubbles in the tread area of the tire. I thought the first was a fluke so I tried another with the same results only not as bad because I was watching a little closer. I am done with Metz and dont intend to own another set. I have run several sets of Dunlop and Bridgestone and although a couple wore funny or didnt get many miles they all were intact when I chose to replace them. Currently running Avon Cobras on my Strats they handle great but the miles to the wear indicators are less than 10,000 and they also feather on the outside edges.
