(Actually I cut the 1st 1/4 inch right off the vent tube and was told that there was a secondary past the bend which I did bend it straight and drilled that, as you said, with a long enough bit and big enough that it should have cured this problem...but it didn't.)

Scratch, are you saying that you straightened the tube and drilled straight down, through the tube, and you still cannot blow air through it?

Hi: Yes, I disconnected the rubber hose from the rollover valve and the other end at the tanks vent tube. The whole rubber hose was clear even with an air compressor. Also, I ended up cutting off the 1st 1/4 inch of the metal vent tube, and straightened it out, and drilled the hole twice the size as the normal stock hole, and deep enough, but not so deep that I'd come through the bottom part of the tank, and all this did not cure getting air into my tank. I even had the gas cap off and blew a compressor 100 psi through it with no results. So, I modded the gas cap as Tazman recommended. Today however, I had to replace just one of the rubber plugs in the gas cap because after filling up, and swinging the bike to an upward position, I started to have gas loss through the cap. Now I'm thinking...ok, instead of implosion, I'll have explosion...LOL...So by replacing just one rubber plug in the largest of both holes in the gas cap, it rectified the problem...No more spillage. I only fill my tank to the bottom of the neck anyways, but that's all it took swinging the bike up to have gas come out, and almost on my pipes.

OK .... I think we may have it. The hole must be drilled all the way through. Normally the vent pipe vents sideways into the tank not down and this is where it's probably plugged.

At this point I would be worried about straightening the vent tube too many times as they do break off if stressed too much. How much is too much? Beats me. I've only done mine once.

If your one vent-hole gas cap is working then I'd leave well enough alone.

This is what I was referring to on the other forum about a second plug inside the tank. If you had the tube straightened out and drilled the outer plug, then you should of just went ahead and drill down further straight through the tube. Thats what I did.

I removed my fuel pump recently. Tried to drill out my vent tube, but know I did not go all the way through. Will try to remedy that this weekend.

Got vacuum lock today ... opened the tank and fixed it ... got home opened it and got hiss again. I did this mod in less than 3 minutes. I put it back together and looked around .. I know I must have lost a part ... it was too easy. Will test it tomorrow, got a 200 mile run ot make.

If you drill out the vent tube then you'll fing that is adequate.

Howver you need to make sure to drill all the way through. It's tough going and I broke a drill bit. Luckily there was about 1/8&quot; sticking out and I was able to vise grip it out.

Thanks for the great write-up. Was a piece of cake, all of about 5min. And managed to do without the vaseline to hold the springs. And believe me, that was an accomplishment with my shaky hands. lol
