rear hub bearing wallow and shock mount tear 4 Years, 2 Months ago
Just purchased an 05 RS with 3700 miles and after reading the articles concerning rear hub bearing wallow and rear shock mount tear problems. I have a few questions. Does the bearing wallow happen to both spoke and cast wheels? Is there any prevention? If not at what approx mileage do we notice the first signs? When do the shock mounts begin to tear away? What is the fix or prevention?

The bearing problem does not happen to all bikes. It may be a manufacturing tolerance thing where it happens to the wheels at the limit of the spec. I've only heard it happen to spoke wheels.

The shock mount breaking is even rarer.

I would not get too worked up about these two critical but rare problems.
