The brackets keep the strain off the hoses. I've seen a kit on E-Bay that will keep the hoses supported but remove the reflectors

No doubt that's what the brackets are for. I was just pleasantly surprised to learn here that several of the guys say they removed them altogether, but there has been no issues to arise as a result of having done so.

I've seen those brackets on eBay too... they go for $18, I think, but then if it's cleaner without them, and the hoses don't suffer for it... well, I just saved me another $18!

In Florida they really get you for no reflectors at the bike events, especially at Daytona. Way to make some fast money and it gives them an excuse to look for other violations.
